Fieldwork Journal

Week 1

I was very nervous because I had never worked as a food bank. There were so many jobs and I felt these jobs were too difficult for me. But I thought it was a valuable opportunity to improve my English communication skills.

Week2

My First work was to prepare vegetables and fruits for the front counter.

The container was so heavy and my arms were tired. But I can know names of foods in English.

Week 3

My second work was front counter work. I was very anxious. Because I had never spoken to many people in English before.

The front counter’s job was to make a set of breads and drinks and give them to customers.

I usually gave them two breads, one drink, one sweet, and three other things. The content and number of items varied depending on the situation, making it very busy.

Time passed very quickly when I was working at the front counter.

Week 4

My third work was to check expiration dates.

This job is to make sure that the expiration date meets the standards and that the containers are not damaged.

I didn’t have to talk to people, so I could relax and try new my work.

Week 5

My fourth work is to make sets. Customers can receive a set once a month. There are a lot of products in a set.

I’m not good at wrap a bag and it was difficult for me. But I could finish the work with Emiri’s help.

Week 6

I worked most of the time at the front counter, sometimes making sets.

I’m used to my job and can clearly express my opinions to customers. I also met a few difficult customers.

It shocked me, but it was important for me to be able to relate to people I could not have met just by studying.

Week 7

I could enjoy talking with stuff and some customers. It was the week I enjoyed my work the most.
